Test Procedures for Flame Retardancy

When it comes to cable manufacturing, that should always begin with safety. At Huatong cable, we rigorously test our cables for flame retardancy to ensure that they adhere to the highest safety requirements. Flame Retardant Testing — what is it, how do you do it, different methods for gauging flame resistance, how to interpret tests results for flame retardant materials and the importance of testing flame retardants along with meeting safety regulations all form an important part of quality control at Huatong Cable.

The fact that understanding the importance of flame retardant testing helps us guarantee all our products are safe, so it is important for everyone to take it seriously.

These materials can provide important peace of mind in the event of an emergency, as they are designed to prevent the spread and growth of fires and increase safety for everyone involved. When testing our wires for flame retardancy, we are able to assess the resistance of our product against fire which would further reduce accidents.

Flame retardancy testing is done by performing operations according to a procedure and checking the material for flame resistance.

The cable is prepared as a sample according to established industry standards and practices. Next, the sample is set to an open flame under controlled conditions and its heat and fire response are measured. Watching how the sample behaved in the test we can evaluate its flame-retardant efficiency, and modifications to improve safety can be made when needed.

It is commonly fire tested with vertical or horizontal flame tests, and an oxygen index test.

For example, the vertical flame test determines how long the fire takes to ascend up the length of a cable, and on the other hand the horizontal flame test assesses resistance to flames extending across a wall. The oxygen index test tells us the lowest level of oxygen required to keep a material alight, therefore it gives us invaluable information about how well it will resist fire.

So much of the testing of flame retardant materials is analyzing data and determining if the cable meets any sort of safety standard. We assure our cable wire products are safe to use in many kind of application by looking on the test result with previously established standard and regulations. We test regularly and if any issues are highlighted we take these on board right away so that we can enhance the flame retardance of the cable.

Flame resistance test in a cable is very important and must be performed properly.

We want to be able to have the freedom of knowing that our products are safe and are thoroughly tested to make sure they comply with safety regulations. As long as we maintain our fire protection test standard, GE cables in homes, the workplace and industrial buildings are all safe to use. With a determination for safety, we make sure that our wire cable tested as carefully as the stringent quality assurance at Huatong cable coils bear.
